A quick note...

I haven't been able to post on this blog in a while!
Here is something really cool that I found while looking up definitions in a book.

"In the NT, the meaning of please has evolved from the passive form: 'being pleased' to the active form: 'to please.' i.e. passing from a relationship to a behavior."
(From the book: The Complete Word Study Dictionary of the New Testament.)

So... what does that mean to me?

Something that springs into my mind when I read the first part of that, (about it meaning "being pleased" in the Old Testament) is the Israelites. They were often described as whiners, during the Exodus out of Egypt all the way through the end of the Old Testament. They always tested God, pushed it to the limits, and wanted more and more. They wanted to be pleased, they wanted everything their way, served to them.

But in the New Testament the meaning changed. The meaning is "to please." So now we are doing the serving! What happened in the New Testament that didn't in the Old Testament? A lot of things, but the biggest difference was Jesus giving His life for us. Our relationship with God changed drastically, now we can enter into the Holy of Holies, then we couldn't. (Well, the high priest could only once a year.) We don't have to make sacrifices, Jesus was the sacrifice.

Such an amazing change!
